About Us

Who We Are - Our Music Heritage & Mission

In 1926 Pipe Major Tadhg Crowley began making bagpipes and uileann pipes. In 1932 he opened a music shop on Merchants Quay, Cork, Ireland selling his instruments to pipe and marching bands all over the country. In the 50's the mantle was taken on by his son Michael (Mick) and that's when the famous Crowleys Music Centre was brought to life. Ever since, this incredible Musical Instrument Store, located in the heart of Cork City offered music lovers all the music equipment they could possibly need.

Now 10 years after the death of Michael Crowley, in our new incarnation 'The Island of Music' our mission is to support local musical instrument makers, and promote and sell their beautifully handcrafted instruments through our online music shop, based in Cork. Secondly we want to promote, and support the livelihood of local musicians and create a circular music economy. A source of revenue to Ireland and a supply of instruments and listeners to breathe life and strength into the music scene here.

This will take time to achieve, in the meantime we're happy to provide you with honest advice and top notch customer service, a great price and the best quality secondhand and handmade instruments in Ireland. Please browse to learn more or contact us for further information.

We hope we can support your dream in music, with your learning, playing and earning!

thanks, Sheena Crowley
